Profile customisation & automation without switch cabinets: Schirmer machines at the Fensterbau Frontale 2024

How can quality, flexibility and speed be achieved in window and door production? Schirmer Maschinen GmbH from Verl/Germany develops customised answers to this question. At Fensterbau Frontale from 19 to 22 March 2024 in Nuremberg, the company will be presenting the latest automated process technology for processing PVC and aluminium profiles at Stand 217 in Hall 3, live and in action, so that the chips literally fly.

At Schirmer, no machine comes from a catalogue. Quite the opposite: based on a continuously developed technological modular system for different processes, the specialist for automated profile processing configures customised solutions with a flexible degree of automation together with his customers. At Fensterbau Frontale 2024, the modular system will be significantly expanded for customer-specific machine configurations, particularly in the areas of PVC and aluminium.

Machines that think in terms of individual profiles

A PVC window that looks like a wooden window – this objective can be achieved with the flexible and compact combination of a new cutting module and a 3-axis routing module with automatic tool changer. It takes PVC profile processing to a new dimension at the world’s leading trade fair for windows, doors and façades and gives PVC windows a high-quality appearance from a single mould.

The highlight in the machining process for PVC profiles is servo-driven guiding system, which – as is standard at Schirmer – adjusts continuously and therefore very precisely and flexibly to the individual rebate height of the profile when transporting the profile on the rebate side while protecting the visible surface.

In the aluminium sector, Schirmer achieves quality, precision and speed through a large number of servo-driven axes that are synchronised with each other. They enable freely programmable functions that can be quickly and individually adjusted to any profile geometry in terms of clamping force, position and direction of action without retooling. At Fensterbau Frontale, visitors can experience a new 5-axis processing unit in throughfeed as well as the combination of two horizontal and vertical 4-axis saws.

Bye bye, switch cabinet

Schirmer will also be presenting an innovation in the field of control systems at the trade fair. For the first time, the company will be demonstrating how machines and systems can be automated completely without control cabinets. The so-called MX system, which will be part of the PVC system on the stand, comes from Beckhoff Automation GmbH & Co. KG, Verl, which, like Schirmer, is part of the Beckhoff Group. In combination with the fully pluggable cable system in the machine modules, this significantly increases the ease of maintenance and service.
