The developers at building fittings manufacturer Basys have been pondering a question for some time now: how to design a concealed hinge for glass doors in a way that – preferably in larger-type premises with doors made of different materials – makes it possible to follow a consistent approach to architectural design. At BAU 2017, the leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, the company is presenting a solution that can be implemented directly and provides particular potential from a design perspective.
Previously, mounting glass doors with concealed hinges has proven to be a challenging exercise. Fitters have resorted to profiles and used conventional glass-door fittings. This has meant that customers have frequently had to make sacrifices when it comes to giving their glass doors a minimalist design look.
For Basys and its customers, however, the ideal situation is a different one: you take a glass door and a fitting. That’s all. And so, with its particular expertise in making concealed hinges, the East Westphalian manufacturer has developed a hinge with a frame part that disappears into the frame and a door part that is hidden from view in a casing attached to the glass door.
The small casing is made of solid aluminium which means it provides many different options for finishing the surface to match its design to the decorative fitting that is required on glass doors.
