„Masterband“ meets „Winnerdoor“: Concealed system technology for exterior doors

Basys – Bartels Systembeschläge, Kalletal, will be demonstrating concealed hinges for house and apartment front doors at the Fensterbau Frontale trade fair in Nuremberg from 21st to 24th March 2018. The solutions for both rebated and flush doors satisfy the design desire for discreet or invisible technology, and focus on the aspects of fire and burglary protection.

Forming the centrepiece at exhibition stand 4-453 in Hall 4 is the so-called „Winnerdoor“, a wood and aluminium front door from the Italian Pradamano-based manufacturer Mixall. Fitted with „Masterband FX2 120 3-D FD“, the German Design Award winning hinge with tried-and-tested fire-safety qualities, Basys is using this customer door to demonstrate how the technology can be adapted for concealed hinges on rebated front doors with 18 mm rebate and door-leaf sealing.

The „Masterband FX2 120 3-D FD“ was developed especially for rebated front doors subject to weather influences and temperature fluctuations. It accommodates wing seals and also features a seal in the hinge itself. The ift Rosenheim Institute for Window Technology has successfully tested the long-term operation of the hinge with a load-bearing capacity of 120 kg per pair and has certified it for Class 12 CE. Furthermore, the „Masterband FX2 120 3-D FD“ – as is the Basys standard – is maintenance-free and adjustable in three dimensions.

With the Basys hinge safety mechanism to the RC3 standard

In the system with the Basys hinge safety mechanism from BaSys the „Winnerdoor“ also qualified for resistance class RC3. This means that the front door resists break-in attempts with screwdrivers and even crowbars for at least 5 minutes. With the separate hinge safety mechanism, entrance doors can be secured to resistance class RC3 regardless of the type of hinge. The Basys solution is mounted on the wing side with a corresponding counterpart and remains adjustable for secure connection.

Complete range for flush front doors

With its „Pivota DX“ range, Basys provides concealed solutions for inset and therefore flush front doors. The complete range of concealed hinges covers load-bearing capacities of 40 to 350 kg per pair. This is not only where the actual door leaf weights play a part, but also over-dimensional sizes, loads due to accessories, such as door closers and drives, as well as reliable lasting performance, demonstrated by door leaves not dropping.

The „Pivota DXE 100 3-D Enox“, for example, is a solid stainless-steel door hinge for load-bearing capacities of up to 160 kilograms per pair. The „Pivota DXS 300 3-D Steel“ is classified as a heavy-duty load carrier within the product range: it is capable of supporting 350 kilograms per pair and made entirely of steel. This gives the hinge an RC4 break-in resistance class. With an increasing share of steel, the hinges are also recommended for smoke and fire protection.

Exclusively developed and patented by Basys, the design principle forms the heart of the „Pivota DX“ hinge range. A symmetric four-knuckle joint evenly transfers the forces from the door leaf into the frame. It is connected to the hinge elements by pistons which support the hinge transversally. They channel forces occurring during opening and closing in a circular fashion in all directions. This principle gives doors a smooth mechanical action. It reliably takes up door-leaf weights and, together with the solid material used, provides a high level of stability – even in conjunction with extreme weights and frequent use. CE certificates verify long-term, maintenance-free operation both in terms of supporting door weight as well as smooth opening and closing movement.
